Pahalgam, a world famous hill station is 45 kms. from the District Head Quarters at Anantnag and located on the banks of river Lidder at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level. The area has a lovely landscape and falls on the way to the great pilgrim centre of Amarnath. It has a sub-tropical highland climate.

Once a great tourist puller and favourite place for shooting of Bollywood films is perhaps the best health resort in the country. The Pahalgam valley presents glamrous look due to its pine forests, snow clad mountains, healthy climate and vast meadows and pastures. Pahalgam skirts Lidder river and torrential flow of water in Lidder river enriches the awesome beauty of the valley. This place offers you many fun activities like golfing, hiking, horse rides and more. A number of hotels and lodges cater to all prefrences and budgets, from luxurious  hotels to unpretentious trekkers lodges, including J&K TDC huts.


Around Pahalgam are many places of interest, and the most beautiful of these is the huge, undulating meadows of Baisran, often dubbed as 'Mini Switzerland' because of its long dark meadows resembling the ones in Switzerland. A major tourist place to visit in Pahalgam , a voyage to the meadows is truly a treat for the senses. It is also an ideal campsite for trekkers who want to move further to the Tulian Lake. 


Betaab valley, on the way to chandwari, is an idyllic spot for picnic. It serves as a base camp for trekking and further exploration of the mountains. 


Aru Valley, 12 kms. from Pahalgam, is a picturesque meadow and base point for trekking to Kolhai glacier, Katar Nag, Lidder Watt and Trasar and Marsar Lakes.

 At a height of 9500 ft Chandwari is the end point of road journey and devotes has to trek 32 km to reach Amarnath. This yatra takes place every year in the month of sawan(Rain)

Tulian Lake is one of the must see places in Pahalgam. It is surrounded by mountains Pir, Panjal and Zanskar from three sides with lush green valley.
Sheshnag Lake is a high altitude mountain lake at an elevation of 12,000 feet, near Vavjan.

The Tarsar Lake trek gives you a most memorable glimpse of the breath-taking beauty of Kashmir.The Marsar Lake is drained by an outlet stream which falls into the Lidder River and is situated at 5 km away from the village Nagberan.
