The backwaters in Malvan is an ideal site for water sports and today Malvan is the most sought after destination for water sports in Maharashtra. The main attraction in Tarkarli apart from the beaches is the famous sea fort of Shivaji - TheSindhudurg fort. It was built in 1664-67 AD by Chhatrapati shivaji Maharaj when all his attempts to take the island fort of Janjira proved futile. One of the best preserved forts of the Marathas, the 48 acre Sindhudurg fort has a four kms long zigzag line of 9 metres high and 3 metres wide rampart with 42 bastions. The ferry to visit the Sindhudurg fort is available from the Malvan jetty which is just two kms from the Malvan town. MTDC trained guides are available to take you on a guided tour of the Sindhudurg fort.
Situated 6 kms south of Malvan and 546 kms away from Mumbai on the coast of Maharashtra is Tarkarli. The mojar attraction here is the long and narrow stretch of beach, with its pristine water. On a clear day, you can see the sea bed through a depth of 20 ft.
A small piece of land surrounded by water, Devbag has a beautiful beach on one side and a spectacular backwater on the other epitomizing natures artistry.The confluence of Karli river where it meets the Arabian sea near the Karli creek provides one the most picturesque spots in the area.Devbag Sangam where the backwater meets the arabian sea is also a favourite of the nature lovers.
Devbag sangam is also a spot for snorkeling to explore the intriguing underwater life. Dolphin point is a spot where you wont spot a dolphin only if you are extremely unlucky!!
Vengurla is famous for its long stretch of iridescent sand, lined up with thick cashew, coconut, jackfruit and mango groves. Vengurla rocks or Burnt Islands is so near to this beach. Malvan has now become a part of the mainland.
